Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor: Uniting Cities Through Seamless Connectivity for a Stronger Economy

Published Date

Strengthening Ahmedabad’s Infrastructure for the Future

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is transforming the economic landscape of Ahmedabad and the entire corridor by seamlessly connecting major cities into one unified economic powerhouse. This high-speed rail initiative is not just about faster travel—it is a catalyst for growth, investment, and regional development.

Ahmedabad stands at the heart of this transformation, being the only city along the corridor with two bullet train stations—Sabarmati and Ahmedabad. These stations, along with modern infrastructure developments, will enhance business opportunities, attract investments, and strengthen Ahmedabad’s position as a key economic hub.

Both stations are strategically located and will be fully integrated with Indian Railways, metro networks, and bus services, ensuring smooth connectivity. The state-of-the-art Sabarmati Multimodal Transport Hub, positioned on the east side of the Sabarmati Bullet Train station, will further streamline urban mobility, enabling seamless transfers while also supporting commercial activities.

This integrated transport ecosystem will serve as a backbone for economic expansion, efficiently linking Ahmedabad to Mumbai and other key economic centres. The 26-km bullet train alignment through Ahmedabad will intersect busy commercial corridors, enhancing access and mobility for businesses and industries.

Upon completion, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor will redefine intercity travel, reducing travel time and offering a faster, safer, and more reliable mode of transport. More importantly, it will also:
•    Enhance Ahmedabad’s economic potential by improving access to business districts and industrial zones
•    Drive regional investment and job creation in sectors like real estate, logistics, and tourism
•    Reduce congestion and improve urban mobility, making Ahmedabad more efficient and competitive
•    Strengthen India’s global economic standing by showcasing world-class infrastructure

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor is more than just a transport project—it is a cornerstone of economic progress, shaping the future of Ahmedabad and positioning it as a central player in India’s growth story.

Progress Status and Technical Details:

The Ahmedabad Bullet Train station is being built seamlessly above Western Railway platforms 10, 11, and 12 and linked to the Kalupur Metro Station via lifts, stairs, and escalators. The station’s major structural works, including concourse, rail, and platform slabs, are nearing completion, with finishing work in progress.

Meanwhile, the Sabarmati terminal station, located in the existing Sabarmati railway yard, will be fully integrated with Indian Railways, the multimodal transport hub, metro stations, and bus stops. Structural work on the station is advancing steadily, with platform-level construction in progress.

The Bullet Train viaduct will span 31 key crossings in Ahmedabad district. These structures are being built using advanced engineering techniques such as the Span-by-Span Method (SBS), Full Span Launching Method (FSLM) and Steel Bridges to ensure efficient and swift construction.
